Interns Chanhong Luu, a senior at University of Virginia and Kimmy Bailey, a junior at Salem College, were tremendous assets to the department and the museum this summer! Our goal was to create a supportive, meaningful learning experience but to also provide opportunities to participate first-hand in a wide variety of educational programs we provide. The interns assisted with thirteen public summer camps at the museum and additional programs for community partners’ camps. They developed various activities and crafts for the camps, as well as taking the lead on some of the activities. Three summer camps were held for the Martinsville/Henry County After 3 program in which the interns assisted, as well as a community festival and museum family festival for an exhibit opening.

Other projects were also completed with the help of the interns this summer. With the acquisition of a classroom set of iPads, Ms. Bailey and Ms. Luu helped with the set up of the iPads, selecting appropriate apps to use and researching how to administer and sync the system. The iPads were a hit with the summer campers!

Thank you Ms. Bailey and Ms. Luu for your hard work this summer and best of luck this academic year!
