Powhatan Red Cloud-Owen is Mohawk/Chickahominy. He is an enrolled member of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe and has served on the Tribal Council for more than 15 years. He retired from Sears after 35 years and worked as the Jamestown 2007 Visiting Specialist, a liaison between the Virginia state-recognized tribes and the state and private organizations involved in commemorative activities.
He has worked as a volunteer tribal events coordinator and organizer for 22 years, serving in multiple roles to direct annual powwows and other public educational and social events. He is often asked to serve as Master of Ceremonies for powwows and events hosted by other tribal nations, and he is a well respected Southern Straight dancer.
He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and has spoken extensively as a tribal veteran to numerous groups throughout the Commonwealth. He was featured in Virginians in War, a PBS documentary released in 2006. He also represents his tribe as a speaker on contemporary American Indian issues and experiences.
