VMNH Curator of Geology James Beard, along with faculty from Virginia Tech, the University of Alabama, and Oberlin College, recently met with graduate students to discuss their projects and new directions for research in petrology. This informal gathering, which took place immediately after a formal session in metamorphic petrology, is typical of the networking opportunities for senior and, especially, junior researchers at scientific meetings.
