Interns were selected by a six-person committee that included Ruby Jones, assistant to the institute's associate director; Imogene Draper, a retired educator and administrator; Russel Gardner, a local land surveyor and associate at Barnett Commercial Realty; Lee Hagwood, a local minister and adjunct faculty member at Danville Community College; Angela Logan, education program officer at The Harvest Foundation; and Lucy Hart Paeden, college guide at Patrick County High School.
