The Virginia Museum of Natural History is pleased to be a part of the ASTC Passport Program (Association of Science-Technology Centers). The program allows members to sample some of the world's most exciting science centers and museums when they're on vacation or visiting family and friends--and to save money while doing it. Families and adults who are members of their local science centers or museums receive free general admission to the Virginia Museum of Natural History. To take advantage of this opportunity, visitors must present their membership card to a participating ASTC Passport Program institution at the box office upon arrival. Some restrictions apply.
The museum is a self-guided facility. Although the museum does not currently offer tours to the general public, tours may be available to groups of 15 or more, depending on availability. To inquire about the possibility of a tour for your group, please call the museum at 276-634-4141 at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled visit.
Visitors With Disabilities
The museum can provide assistive interpretation for visitors with disabilities. The interpreter is scheduled by appointment only. If an interpreter is needed, please call the museum two weeks prior to the visit. A tour with sign language interpretation may be scheduled by calling the museum two weeks prior to the visit. The museum has both a manual wheelchair and a powered electric wheelchair available for use free on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservations). If a wheelchair is needed, please ask the box office staff for assistance. A passenger elevator is also available.
The museum strives to make every visitor's experience fun, educational and memorable and encourages all visitors to bring a camera with them to help remember their visit. The museum does reserve the right to restrict or prohibit camera use when necessary, at its discretion, to ensure the safety and enjoyment of visitors or to ensure the safety and efficiency of museum operations. If photographs, video or any other forms of recording might be used for reasons other than private use, the museum requires visitors to inform the box office upon arrival.
