A tavern in Petersburg served as an important meeting venue for America's founding fathers and later British officers during the American Revolution, but it is the food eaten by those guests that interests Dr. Elizabeth Moore, curator of archaeology at the Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsville. In the 18th century, taverns were among the few public places where people (primarily men) could gather to discuss the issues of the day.
