The museum's Mobile Science Outreach trailer is a semi-permanent structure located at the future home of the VMNH-Waynesboro branch campus at the corner of W. Main and Arch Street. The trailer is open to the public on select dates and includes a variety of exhibits to explore, mostly related to the natural history of the Shenandoah Valley region.
Current Exhibits
- A cast skeleton of a giant beaver, a now extinct species from the last Ice Age
- A cast skeleton of an Ice Age wolf
- Limestone fossils of various marine life
- Cast dinosaur skulls and real gastroliths (gizzard stones) from dinosaurs
- Rock, mineral, and cave specimens
- A fossil stromatolite (one of the oldest forms of life on earth)
- "A World of Beetles"
Days of Operation
Currently, the trailer is planned to be open to the public (free of charge) during the following events. Additional dates will be added as they are confirmed.
- Waynesboro Riverfest (Saturday, May 2, 2026)
- Virginia Street Arts Festival (Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, 2026)
- Waynesboro Farmers Market (May - October, 2026, Mornings Only)
