Skeletal plagioclase crystal in basalt. The fretwork (skeletal) pattern in the rectangular crystal of plagioclase reflects rapid growth of the crystal as the basalt magma cooled quickly, probably during eruption. Cross-polarized light. Field of view 5 mm.
