Visitors With Disabilities
The museum can provide assistive interpretation for visitors with disabilities. The interpreter is scheduled by appointment only. If an intepreter is needed, please call the museum two weeks prior to the visit. A tour with sign language interpretation may be scheduled by calling the museum two weeks prior to the visit. The museum has both a manual wheelchair and a powered electric wheelchair available for use free on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservations). If a wheelchair is needed, please ask the box office staff for assistance. A passenger elevator is also available.
VMNH Camera Policy
The use of all cameras and recording devices in the museum is subject to approval by VMNH staff prior to use. VMNH reserves the right to restrict or prohibit camera use when necessary, at its discretion, to ensure the safety and enjoyment of visitors or to ensure the safety and efficiency of museum operations. The Virginia Museum of Natural History is "Virginia Green" certified!
Virginia Green is the statewide program that works to reduce the environmental impacts of Virginia's tourism industry. It is a partnership between the Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The program awards Virginia Green Certification to tourism-related business such as hotels, restaurants and attractions taking voluntary actions to reduce harmful impacts on the environment.
ASTC Passport Program
The ASTC Passport Program (Association of Science-Technology Centers) allows members to sample some of the world's most exciting science centers and museums when they're on vacation or visiting family and friends--and to save money while doing it. Families and adults who are members of their local science centers or museums receive free general admission to the Virginia Museum of Natural History.
