Homeschool Open House

The Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsville is hosting its annual Homeschool Open House on Wednesday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to noon for homeschool parents and families! The open house will also be the first opportunity to register for the 2026-27 Homeschool Science & Engineering Academy sessions!

During Homeschool Open House, participants have the opportunity to meet the museum's exceptional education staff, learn about the museum's dedicated homeschool educational programming, and explore the museum's exhibit galleries!

The event includes door prize drawings for a one-year Museum Membership, items from the Museum Store, and one free month (2 sessions) of "Homeschool Science & Engineering Academy" programming for one student (more info about the academy below)!

There's no need to sign-up for Homeschool Open House. Just stop by the museum any time between 10 a.m. and Noon and learn how we can provide exceptional STEM programming for your homeschool student(s) throughout the upcoming school year!

About Homeschool Science & Engineering Academy

From September through May, the museum offers a series of engaging science and engineering programs for homeschool students ages 6 to 18! The immersive programs are led by museum educators and take place at VMNH on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10 to 11:15 a.m. and repeated from 1 to 2:15 p.m. The program fee is $10 per student per program, or $160 for the entire season.

The open house will serve as the first opportunity to register your children for the 2026-27 programs. Online registration will open on Thursday, August 13 at 10 a.m. More information about the academy, including a full schedule of programs and links to register (when online registration opens), can be found here.

Only a limited number of spots for each program are available and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
