Virginia Museum of Natural History

The museum's Fossil Overlook is a new prehistoric life exhibit that includes a variety of fossils, detailed models, casts, and interactive multi-media programs for visitors of all ages. This new exhibit is located on the museum's upper-level.

The Virginia Museum of Natural History has strong programs in research, collections, and both "at-the-museum" and outreach education programs. VMNH conducts significant scientific research spanning the current globe and some 500 million years of earth's history, and supports important collections, which number more than 10 million specimens and artifacts. In addition to its important programs in research, collections, and education, the museum also features award-winning permanent and temporary exhibits both at the museum and through remote sites. These exhibits help to translate the museum's scientific research into easily understood language and concepts that supplement and highlight relevant standards of learning.

Below are some specimens, models, and interactives currently featured in the Fossil Overlook. Please check back for further updates and images.
