June 17, 2017
Time: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Join us for the first ever Dragon Festival at VMNH on Saturday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn about the connections between natural history and dragon lore across the world.

This festival will include a variety of displays, hands-on activities, fascinating presentations, delicious foods and much more. Meet the Vikings of the Valley and learn about their armor and weaponry.  Enjoy face painting, balloon animals, green screen photos, and a Chinese dragon dance.

Additional activities and displays will highlight:

  • Carboniferous fossil plants (the central natural history/biology piece of this hypothesis!)
  • Dragons around the World
  • Dragons in Folklore
  • Dragons in Art
  • Dragons in Science – dragonflies, ecology of fire, Carboniferous forests, geology, lycopods, and more
  • Medieval culture and it's influence on dragon lore
