Palaeozoic Forests

The museum preserves several thousand fossil plant samples from the Devonian and Carboniferous forests of the Atlantic states, from New York in the north to Virginia in the south, with Virginia Tech paleontologist Steven Schaeckler having collected most of this material. Recent trips to the Devil's Bathtub locality in far southwest Virginia have produced additional tree and leaf specimens from the early Carboniferous Period.
