Museum education staff, Dr. Denny Casey, Ally Lary, and Debbi Bryant, host a webcast for students of Peasley Middle School in Gloucester, Virginia. The program is part of the Smithsonian Science How! free webcasts, which connect middle school students throughout Virginia with Smithsonian scientists and researchers. Before connecting with the Smithsonian, VMNH staff provided the students with an overview of the museum's archaeology program and supplemental material for the upcoming program. Paging all paleontology enthusiasts! The museum's curator of paleontology, Dr. Alton "Butch" Dooley will present "Reconstructing Butetercup: From scraps of bone to fossil whale" this Thursday at 6 p.m. at the museum. During the presentation, Dr. Dooley will discuss "Buttercup", a juvenile baleen fossil whale that was first discovered at the Carmel Church excavation site in Caroline County, Virginia in 2011. Dr. Dooley and technicians are currently reconstructing the fossils to cast for future exhibition at the museum. Don't miss this wonderful and FREE presentation!

My 4 year old son loves going to the museum. The exhibits are educational, interactive and kid-friendly.
