Staff at the Virginia Museum of Natural History recently came to the aid of museum colleagues at the Fairfield Foundation in Gloucester, Virginia, following massive flooding at the organization's collections site due to a plumbing leak. Curator of Archaeology Dr. Elizabeth Moore and Librarian Mary Catherine Santoro are providing assistance at the site.

The museum held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception on Thursday, April 19 at the museum. Volunteers and staff were able to socialize before each volunteer was recognized for their service to the museum. Afterwards, door prizes were handed-out, including the grand prize of a hand-carved Bluebird created by Bob Penley. The entire staff of VMNH thanks every volunteer, past and present, for all their contributions towards the museum's goals.

Over 200 1st and 2nd graders from Patrick Henry Elementary and Drewry Mason Elementary, as well as area homeschool students, took part in Earth Day at VMNH on April 20. Museum staff, interpreters, and members of the Dan River Basin Association, Master Naturalists, Philpott Lake, Future Farmers of America at Laurel Park Middle School, and other community partners helped make the event a huge success!

Dr. Jeff Day visited VMNH to consult with museum staff on human health education programs and gave lectures promoting his book "Don't Touch That!" at the museum this past Saturday April 7th, and at Studio 107 on April 6th.
