Don't miss this special event hosted by the Virginia Master Naturalists! "Welcome Back, Bluebirds" Saturday, February 1 from 10:00 to 11:30 am Virginia Museum of Natural History Christine Boran, State Coordinator for the Virginia Bluebird Society, will be giving a presentation entitled "Welcome Back, Bluebirds". The purpose of this presentation is to provide general information on bluebirds and other cavity nesters. Participants will also learn the basics of bluebird nest box monitoring. There will be displays, handouts, and Q & A included. This event is open to the public so bring a friend.

The 27th annual Thomas Jefferson Awards will be held March 20 at the Virginia Museum of Natural History. This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Bruce Latimer, professor of anthropology, anatomy, and cognitive science, and director of the Center for Human Origins at Case Western Reserve University. Don't miss this fascinating, FREE presentation on Thursday, January 9 at 6 p.m.! Dr. Paul Marek, professor and entomologist at Virginia Tech, will present "Glow-in-the-Dark Millipedes: Appalachian mimicry rings and the 750-legged beast" as part of the museum's '2nd Thursday Science Talks' series. Each presentation within the series is free and open to the public thanks to generous donations to the VMNH Foundation Discovery Fund.
