Don't miss the many events and programs coming up in October at VMNH! Our "2nd Thursday Science Talks" series kicks off Oct. 9 with a presentation by Dr. Jim Beard, Director of Research & Collections. The Reptile Day festival is Oct. 11, with hundreds of reptiles to be on display. Homeschool Wednesdays is Oct. 15, and Doodle Bugs for ages 3-5 is Oct. 29. Learn more at www.vmnh.net.

The Virginia Museum of Natural History has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Helen S. and Charles G. Patterson, Jr., Charitable Foundation Trust for a new Smilodon fatalis, or saber-toothed cat exhibit. This new exhibit will travel to selected museums, libraries and other venues statewide before being placed on display in the museum's Harvest Foundation Hall of Ancient Life in late 2015.

The Virginia Museum of Natural History Foundation held its 9th annual Golf Tournament on September 12 at Westlake Golf & Country Club near Smith Mountain Lake, VA. This successful event generates funding for the VMNH Discovery Fund which supports vital museum programs in Research, Education and Exhibits. Thank you to title sponsor Ferguson Enterprises, as well as premier sponsors Boxley, Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County, and Deshon & Jones – Orthodontists, Invisalign Specialists. Over 100 golfers took part in the event. The winning team was Ferguson Enterprises, and included team members Billy Dudley, Nick Jones, Chip Holston and Duane Wright.
