Join us on Tuesday, October 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the museum for an open house with behind-the-scenes access to the VMNH Archaeology Lab as part of Virginia Archaeology Month! Admission to the event is free. Join VMNH Archaeologist Elizabeth Moore in a behind-the-scenes tour of the archaeology laboratory. Visitors will see some of the new collections recently donated to VMNH, see how researchers process and identify artifacts, and learn about current volunteer opportunities. We hope to see you here!

The Virginia Museum of Natural History is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, September 30, from noon to 5 p.m. in the Walker Lecture Hall. This blood drive is in tribute to and in memory of the recently deceased Laura Chiudioni, who was the wife of Dr. Jim Beard, Director of Research & Collections at VMNH. The names of donors will be given to the family. This blood drive is by appointment only. Thanks for your support! The hour-long programs include imaginative stories, fun activities, games and crafts that spark creativity and curiosity. They are the perfect opportunity for adults and grandparents to learn and have fun with their children! Programs are held at 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month. The museum will host a variety of exhibits, festivals and programs in the coming months, from 2nd Thursday Science Talks to the Reptile Day and Dino Day festivals. During the 17th century, explorers from England, Spain, France, and Portugal sought to explore the "New World", now known as the Americas. "Glory, God, and gold" drove men of religion, men of business, and men with ambition to map new lands, learn about natural resources, and make contact with native peoples. Today, archaeologists study the past by excavating sites and interpreting the things that people have left behind. Through this study, society continuously gains greater knowledge and insight into our past. Stories forgotten are remembered and new clues change the way we view years past. On Saturday, September 5, the Virginia Museum of Natural History will publicly unveil its latest special exhibit, "Exploring ...
