Don't miss DINO DAY on Saturday, January 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum! Dino Day features real dinosaur fossils, life-size skeleton casts of Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Acrocanthosaurs and Allosaurus, as well as the skull casts of Diplodocus, Appalachiosaurus and Dunkleosteus, a massive, predatory fish that lived well over 350 million years ago! Special presentations, games and activities will take place throughout the event. You can even take a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum's scientific research areas! LIVE ANIMALS! That's right. For the first time ever, Dino Day will feature live animals to highlight the similarities between dinosaurs and modern day animals. On display will be an emu, crocodile, ...

After careful consideration, the museum has decided to postpone Dino Day until Saturday, January 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to a major winter storm predicted to impact the region. We are pleased to announce that all of the great dinosaur displays, fossils, and live animals that were originally scheduled for Dino Day will still be offered on the 30th, as well as a variety of activities and behind-the-scenes tours of the museum's research areas. We greatly appreciate all of our vendors' willingness to adjust their schedules in order for us to offer the full-blown Dino Day on January 30. We also apologize for any inconvenience this causes to our visitors. We know many people were looking forward to attending Dino Day and we ...

Museum employees, with the help of Martinsville-Henry County Director of Tourism, Jennifer Doss, painted dinosaur footprints on a section of Starling Avenue in front of the museum on Thursday in preparation for the Dino Day festival on Saturday, January 23. Dr. Alex Hastings, assistant curator of paleontology at VMNH, said the following of the art... "The tracks are modeled after real dinosaur footprints that have been attributed to Acrocanthosaurus, a large meat-eating dinosaur that was almost the size of T. rex. We chose this dinosaur because we have a great skeleton here at the museum and it was found in nearby Maryland.
