The Virginia Museum of Natural History's 29th annual Thomas Jefferson Awards ceremony was held on Thursday, March 24 at the historic Wayne Theater in Waynesboro, Virginia. The VMNH Foundation Thomas Jefferson Awards ceremony is a statewide event that honors individuals and corporations for outstanding contributions to natural science, natural science education, and conservation.

Dr. Charles Egeland, assistant professor of biological anthropology and paleoanthropology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, presented "A Neandertal's perspective on the existence of 'races' among modern humans" on March 10 as part of the museum's "2nd Thursday Science Talks" series. Admission to these presentations is free thanks to generous donations to the VMNH Foundation Discovery Fund.
