Over 50 Girl Scouts from the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council took part in the museum's first-ever Girl Scout Day at the museum on Saturday, February 16. Museum educators and volunteers offered fun, interactive, educational programming that allowed the Scouts to earn a museum patch. Of course, the Scouts also had an opportunity to tour the museum's exhibit galleries. This landscape features underground streams and aquifers, which supply the wells and springs for communities. The hollow nature of karst terrain results in a very high pollution potential. Streams and surface runoff entering sinkholes or caves bypass natural filtration through the soil and provide direct conduits for contaminants in karst terrain. Students from Albert Harris Elementary School in Martinsville recently took a field trip to the museum, and the students sent in some great thank you cards after their visit. These are a few of the many great cards sent in by some excellent artists. With recent funding from the Charity League of Martinsville-Henry County for school group visits, along with the spectacular "Dinosaurs" and "Dinosaur Discovery" exhibits now open, there has never been a better time to visit the museum!
